Welcome
devafall to the ATSA family. Wave at him, and shit.
Deva, this journal is mostly IC news, a few scenes, etc. It'll at least give you an idea of what's going on in the game. I'll send you other stuff when I can.

Date: 2003-08-05 12:59 am (UTC)What will I need to acquire if I am to play? A copy of the core book (http://www.wizards.com/starwars/product.asp?TSR11793), yes? Anything else?
Also, what of the supplementary reading material should I soak up in the meantime? You mentioned the Timothy Zahn books; should I pay particular attention to any of the others?

Date: 2003-08-05 06:44 am (UTC)As to fiction, well. The original Zahn trilogy is good, but they do happen some twenty years previous to the game. The game is set in the New Jedi Order era. I can loan those, too, once I'm moved. Or you can check libraries, or whatever.
Of the pre-NJO novels, most are fairly bad: Avoid Darksaber, The Crystal Star, and Planet of Twilight at all costs. . Some are great: The Zahn Trilogy, the Zahn duology (which takes place five years before the game began), The Black Fleet Crisis trilogy. Some are mediocre: The Jedi Academy trilogy, The New Rebellion. The Essential Chronology sums all this up and may be the fastest way to do it without slogging through a bunch of material you really don't need to have read to enjoy the game. The NJO Sourcebook will do the same for the game, up until the point we're at, three months after the Fall of Coruscant and the near-defeat of the New Republic.
The quickest way to bring you up to speed is something I'm working on currently. The BEST way, of course, is to read the NJO series, but that'll take a while, considering they're on book 14 or so (and the series will be ending this winter).
Yep. I'm a freaking fanboy. The bottom line is, I can fill you in on anything you really need, but if you already have the desire to read the books, they're pretty good.
